Faculty Mentor

Monica Torres (Ph.D.) received her MSc at Ghent University (Belgium) and her PhD in Plant Biology at Rutgers University. Her research in plant microbiome has enabled her to become an expert on microbial symbiosis, and in how to dissect the many components of living systems, using isolation and identification techniques by classic, cellular and molecular techniques, plant tissue culture, extraction and isolation of natural products and testing their biological activity, with vast experience that encompasses an interdisciplinary curriculum in microbiology, plant physiology, botany, tissue culture, natural products and molecular biology, thus is perfect for the involvement and mentoring undergraduate students in research. Her research has been published in peer-reviewed journals, she authored or co-authored thirty- two publications in peer reviewed journals, twelve book chapters and over forty presentations in scientific meetings. Also, she is coauthor of a book and coeditor of a book on Microbial Symbiosis. At Rutgers the State University of New Jersey (Office of Undergraduate Instruction, Division of Life Sciences), Dr. Torres teaches undergraduate courses in biology and Biology lab.
