Professor Blakesley Burkhart is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy. She completed her Ph.D. in Astronomy at the University of Wisconsin–Madison in 2014 and was a NASA Einstein Postdoctoral Fellow at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics thereafter. Her research is focused on understanding the nature of magnetic turbulence at all scales in the universe. This includes the solar wind, the diffuse and star-forming interstellar medium (ISM), the turbulent nature of nearby galaxies. She has won several major awards for her scientific work, including the Annie Jump Cannon Award and Robert J. Trumpler Award. Professor Burkhart has mentored students at every academic level and is excited to be a Faculty Mentor for the SAS Honors Program.
