Faculty & Staff

The involvement of faculty in the School of Arts and Sciences Honors Program is crucial to the success of the program. Faculty teach Interdisciplinary Honors Seminars and department-based honors courses; faculty serve as Faculty Mentors for our new students; and elected and appointed faculty serve as members of the School of Arts and Sciences Honors Program Committee, which governs the SAS Honors Program.

Come see campus any time but to take advantage of the full range of what we offer, visit us on a weekday when classes are in session, residence halls and student centers are open, and our faculty, staff and students are available to answer your questions. We should mention that exam periods in mid-December and early May, spring break week in mid-March, winter break, and holidays are times when some of our tours and services are limited.

Parking on campus is limited. Visitor parking is available in pay-per-hour lots and parking decks around campus and in New Brunswick.

Visitors to campus are welcome to ride any of our campus buses. There is no charge.

Arlene Stein (Sociology) is an Associate Professor of Sociology, and serves on the Graduate Faculty of Women's and Gender Studies. She has written extensively about sexual politics, identities, American political culture and social movements, and the sociology of trauma/memory. She is the author of three books, including The Stranger Next Door: The Story of a Small Community’s Battle Over Sex, Faith, and Civil Rights, which won a number of awards. She is committed to making social science and non-fiction writing livelier and more accessible. She is currently writing a book about descendants of Holocaust survivors and their efforts to excavate and remember the past.

All members of SAS Honors are assigned an advisor from the SAS Honors Advising staff. Honors advisors are students' primary point of contact for discussions about course selection, major selection, graduate and professional school applications, major scholarship applications, internships, co-curricular opportunities, and much more. We encourage you to visit any one of our six locations on each of the four campuses.
